Dear Friends of the Wetlands

Photos by Richard Swigart

Has it occurred to you that you are a friend of the wetlands? We all are. It is a simple as this: we all depend on the wetlands to keep our water clean.

Over the years, 90 percent of Ohio's wetlands have been lost. Here in Greene County, citizens have defended the area of the Beaver Creek against this trend. But the pressures are mounting from rapid growth and development in the area.

The Beaver Creek Wetlands Association (BCWA) is a group of folks who, just like you, believe that safe water and the environment needed to protect it are essential to a healthy and satisfying life in our communities. Even more, we believe we have a rare opportunity to maintain a close and friendly relationship with our wetlands by protecting this unique wetland ecosystem. and its aquifer below. The late John Sawhill, former president of the Nature Conservancy, asserted that a community defines itself "not only by what it creates, but by what it refuses to destroy."

BCWA invites you visit this website and discover how and why our friendship with the wetlands is so important to our communities. Find out about the parnerships, community networks, and the efforts of volunteers - also people just like you - who continue the work to preserve our wetlands.

Here you will find information on upcoming events, maps to guide you through the wetlands corridor, copies of our newsletter, details on current projects, recent articles and beautiful photos of the wetlands.
